  • Mario Wanderley

    Managing Partner

    Mario Wanderley has over 25 years of broad-based business experience, including as an entrepreneur, finance and operating executive and investment banker. Mario’s experience spans several industries, including: technology, software, manufacturing, professional services, medical devices, ad tech, fintech, telecommunications and retail. As the co-founder of three companies that he later helped sell, and the CFO and COO of numerous other ventures, Mario has developed the ability to quickly identify and improve on the key operating and financial levers of a business to increase productivity and profitability and maximize cash flow and value creation. Mario is also an experienced dealmaker, with over $11 billion in domestic and international M&A, debt and equity financing transactions executed. Prior to founding Venture Growth Partners, Mario spent seventeen years with The Crowley Group – an entrepreneurial investment firm engaged in the start-up, acquisition and management of domestic and international businesses. During his tenure, Mario co-founded and acted as CFO, COO and Board Member of several businesses, including two companies backed by The Blackstone Group (the world’s largest private equity firm) and a joint-venture with AT&T – helping create over $500 million in Enterprise Value. The Crowley Group is currently a client of Venture Growth Partners. Prior to Crowley, Mario was an investment banker with J.P. Morgan & Co (in New York and Sao Paulo, Brazil), where he participated in the origination and execution of transactions across several industries in the U.S. and Latin America. Earlier in his career, Mario was the General Manager of a division of an industrial company, where he turned a money-losing business into the company’s most profitable and fastest growing unit by reducing costs, increasing productivity and acquiring blue-chip clients such as Alcoa, the aluminum multinational. Mario received his MBA with a concentration in Finance from the University of Virginia and his B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Operations from Universidade Salvador (Brazil).

  • Jim Bailey

    CFO Consultant

    Jim Bailey is an accomplished operational CFO with over three decades of experience as a senior finance professional in business units of both private and public companies, and a proven track record of implementing internally and acquisition-driven growth plans. Jim began his career with the Big 4 accounting firms of Deloitte Touche and Ernst & Young (E&Y). While at E&Y, Jim worked with the privately-owned business group assisting owners with their exit strategies by performing business valuations and seller packaging. Subsequently, while at The Analytic Sciences Corporation (TASC), which grew from $70 to $420 million during his tenure, he led the team responsible for the spin-out of one of the business units and supported the subsequent sale of the subsidiary. While CFO of another TASC subsidiary, Weather Services International, Jim (i) drove the redefinition of the major product line pricing structure, resulting in a profit margin improvement of 35 points over two years and (ii) supported the $120 million divestiture, due diligence and integration into the new owner. While CFO of Astra Tech, a medical devices business that grew from $20 to $180 million during his tenure, Jim drove the Finance and Administrative functions supporting the $70 million acquisition, merger and operational integration of Atlantis Components. During the subsequent $1.8 billion divestiture of Astra Tech (by Astra Zeneca) to DentsplySirona, Jim guided the overall due diligence effort and subsequently led cross-functional teams on several complex integrations of legal entities and significant operating units/product lines as a result of major post-acquisition restructurings and reorganizations. Jim earned both a BS and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. He also received an MS in Finance from Bentley University. In addition, Jim is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA).

    COO and CFO Consultant

    During his more than 30-year career as a C-level executive, Rob Brierley has helped companies ranging in size from start-ups through mature businesses to successfully develop and execute growth strategies. He has helped grow businesses in diverse industries including energy management services, semiconductor components, software, building controls, semiconductor capital equipment, media and entertainment. Having successfully operated businesses, Rob understands the disciplines required to effectively deliver financial and operational improvement by executing on well-defined strategic objectives. His background includes: finance, accounting, operations, legal, sales strategy, business development, capital raising and M & A. Throughout his career, Rob has been effective at driving successful financial and operating performance within companies by understanding the end-to-end requirements of strategy development and focused execution to achieve intended results. Among his accomplishments: - Under his leadership at Aircuity profit margins improved from 35% to 65%, capacity increased by 5X through effective supply chain optimization, retention rates on highly profitable $6M recurring services revenue doubled from 45% to over 90%, and more than $25M of equity and debt capital was raised. - He partnered with the founding CEO at Extraction Systems to re-position this semiconductor filtration equipment maker and drive profitable growth resulting in the successful sale to Mykrolis Corporation. - At Phoenix Controls, he led the development and execution of the growth strategy that successfully positioned this leading critical room airflow systems company for its sale to Honeywell, Inc. Following the sale to Honeywell, he remained to run the Phoenix Controls subsidiary for Honeywell with full P & L responsibility to achieve all performance goals. - As a member of the founding management team at Access Media he was responsible for all financial and print operations for the launch of this new media publication that grew to be the 3rd largest weekly circulation magazine in eighteen months. While there he structured and successfully closed three rounds of venture funding totaling more than $55 million. Rob began his career with Coopers & Lybrand followed by eleven years with Unitrode Corporation, where he had worldwide Treasurer responsibility for this NYSE multi-national corporation engaged in the design, manufacture and marketing of high performance electronic components. He was instrumental in the execution of the global expansion and M & A strategy which resulted in Unitrode’s growth from $35M to over $200M. With his strong background in operationally-based strategy formulation and execution, he has helped CEO’s and executive management teams to think critically about developing, implementing and executing growth strategies to leverage market opportunities and address the competitive landscape for their companies. Rob holds a Masters Degree from the Sloan School of Management at M.I.T.

    Joe Impellizeri has three decades of global financial leadership, from early stage start-ups to a $300M business within a Fortune 30 market leader. He serves as a Senior Financial Executive or Chief Financial Officer for diverse venture capital and angel funded emerging businesses. Joe’s industry experience includes: high technology, enterprise software, software-as-a-service (SaaS), pharmaceuticals, media services, and manufacturing. A trusted business advisor, Joe supports emerging to mid-sized companies with a range of services beyond traditional financial responsibilities. In all of his companies, he has driven consistent revenue and profit growth by providing key partnership in business strategy, business management and operations support, software contracts/licensing, key customer or vendor negotiations, and of course…fundraising, financial planning, analysis, and core controllership. Prior to providing CFO services on a consulting basis, Mr. Impellizeri was: - Vice President, Finance & Administration, and Treasurer of Wavemark, a SaaS healthcare information technology company; - CFO of Marathon Technologies CORP., a privately held, VC funded provider of automated, fault tolerant-class availability solutions for virtual and physical environments; - Vice President Finance for PEGASYTEMS (NASDAQ: PEGA), a $100M global provider of business process management software and services; - CFO of SYNCRA SYSTEMS, INC., a SaaS provider of supply chain collaboration services for retailers and suppliers. He also served in a number of positions with COMPAQ – DIGITAL EQUIPMENT CORPORATION, including as (i) - CFO of the Federal Systems Business, (ii) Controller for AltaVista, an internet service, and (iii) Finance Manager for the $300M private-label Component OEM business. While at Digital he also completed an expatriate assignment in northern Mexico leading finance at a $25M module manufacturing plant. Mr. Impellizeri received his MBA from the Columbia Business School where his concentrations were in International Business, Marketing, and Finance, and his BSBA in Accounting and Finance at Boston University. Currently he serves on advisory boards and on the board of a small non-profit.
